August heralds a powerful wave of transformation, with energies steadily building in anticipation of upcoming eclipses and alignments that will shape our journey ahead. The accelerating pace, already noticeable to many, serves as a call to maintain balance, recommit to service, and face what lies ahead with keen awareness and presence. Amidst this flow, the Virgo New Moon on August 23 marks a critical moment, signalling a period of renewal, restoration, and embodiment.

This lunation, the New Black Moon, occurs at 0° Virgo, right at the start of this sign. This position embodies the essence of new beginnings—a reset point where fresh intentions can take root. However, unlike fiery new starts that explode outward, this Virgo Moon invites us into the stillness of the void—the womb of creation—where quiet restoration and reordering take place.

Adding to its significance, this New Moon is the first of two in Virgo, with the second emerging as a Solar Eclipse on September 21. Together, they form a passageway —a corridor of transformation that extends from August into late September. This pathway offers the healing power of renewal, refinement, and the weaving of body, mind, and spirit into wholeness.

Virgo is often misunderstood. Too often, its qualities are reduced to stereotypes of perfectionism or analysis. But Virgo is much more expansive. At its core, Virgo embodies the archetype of the Virgin, which in its original sense refers to someone who is whole unto herself. This archetype represents sovereignty, simplicity, and the ability to contain and sustain life energy from within.

Virgo rules refinement, integration, and restoring rhythm. It reorganises what has fallen into chaos, brings discernment where there is confusion, and invites us to weave spirit into matter through intentional action. When activated in its highest form, Virgo awakens in us the ability to serve without exhaustion, to heal by aligning with natural rhythms, and to restore coherence to systems both within and outside ourselves.

The Virgo New Moon is supported by the subtle yet powerful resonance of two dwarf planets that deepen its healing invitation.

First, Haumea, the Hawaiian goddess of regeneration, stands in sextile to this lunation. Haumea’s presence offers access to cellular renewal and shamanic wisdom. She reminds us that cycles of destruction are always followed by cycles of creation and that barren landscapes—whether in body, heart, or soul—can be restored to vitality. Her energy speaks to the rebalancing of ecosystems, both personal and planetary, and the return of life to its natural order.

Second, Sedna, the Inuit sea goddess, is also powerfully activated. Sedna embodies the archetype of the betrayed feminine, bearing the profound imprint of abandonment, exclusion, and loss. Yet, from these depths, she carries the wisdom of spiritual guardianship. Sedna teaches that the places where we feel most abandoned can become our greatest sources of strength, and that by remembering our belonging, we reclaim our power to nurture and protect life.

Together, these alignments make this lunation a vessel for a profound reset, where repair, transmutation, and embodiment can take root. It is about permitting restoration.
